Moviehole MailBag – 24/6/06

Episode : The One without the Cream

First of all, I just want to thank my elves for helping me out this past fortnight, with Mailbag, it’s much appreciated. Now, as they say, ‘the flaming’ begins. Email Clint with your weekly Mailbag questions.

Q.I came upon your article regarding Nadia Bjorlin as playing Wonder Woman in the upcoming film. I have seen her on “Days of Our Lives” and always found her to be one of my favorite characters on the show.
She did however mention in her latest appearance on Soap Talk that she was indeed being considered for the role of Wonder Woman, so your announcement comes a little late. If you don’t think she’s right for the role, perhaps you should take a look at the altered image I found and have attatched to the email.
– Allie
A. More like your announcement comes a little late…. This is something we mentioned about a month ago, if not further back. Oh, and can you find me the part where I said ‘she’s not right for the role’? I don’t believe I ever said that, in fact, I think I said I actually liked her look. But thanks for the comments and the picture. ‘My announcement comes a little late’? sheeesh. Like having Buffy slay you through the thumper.

Q.Hi Clint, Like you, I was upset and angry over the cancellation of “Everwood”. But it wasn’t “7th Heaven”’s fault. As soon as the CW’s web site went up, they had an “Everwood” page for the show saying it was going into it’s 5th season Sunday nights at 7. But it was quickly taken down. Instead, there is an hour that night devoted to an “Encore Presentation” of “America’s Next Top Model”. That’s what ticks me off. They could of easily had “Everwood” as a mid season replacement to replace “Runaway” after 7th. Or premiered “Everwood” in the fall and give it a break mid season for the new show. There were 4 very easy, very simple, and very obvious ways for “Everwood” to of been on there. And it was on the schedule!. They went so far as to have a page for it. I am hearing rumors that they could be picking it up as a mid season replacement after all the backlash they have gotten. But it obviously isn’t 7th’s fault. I think that’s just an excuse made from Dawn Ostroff. If you read her interview about it in TV Guide, you would see that she didn’t seem to really know what she was talking about and nothing she said made any sense. Sorry for making this too long!. Thought I would throw my two cents in. There’s just something else fishy going on here. – Barry
A. Either way, someone’s going down. (Especially now, having just read that they had planned to bring Sarah Lancaster back as Madison next season! Grrr!)

Q.My vote is for Nadia Bjorlin. – Lynette
A. I believe Allie is tallying up the votes.

Q.There’s an actress that would be absolutely perfect for the role of Wonder Woman – Mia Zottoli. She’s tall, sexy, athletic, buxom, and most of all, has that look that is definitely right. She’s not a well-known name, but it would be well worth the time for the execs to check her out. – Mabonner
A. Someone just linked to our month-old ‘Who should play Wonder Woman’ story, didn’t they?

Q.Will “Stir of Echoes: The Dead Speak”, with Rob Lowe, go Direct to video or will it actually get a theatrical release? Thanks! – Jared
A. I don’t think they’ve decided yet, but since they’ve cast Rob Lowe in the film – someone who can’t exactly open a film as well as he did back in the 80s – it’s a pretty safe-bet to say it’s going direct to Blockbuster. On the other hand, I’ve been wrong before … and my wife will remind me of such occurrences most nights.

Q.Hey, Clint – love the site – I have a few questions, which are probably over asked, but I just wanted some recent news if there is any. Has anyone heard anything definitive about a follow up to “Serenity/Firefly”? Is “Arrested Development” dead, or is another studio picking up the rights? Is the “Aquaman’ series (the trailer looked sweet) dead also, or could it possibly be picked up by another network/reworked into a movie? Have any good juicy rumors about the two “Star Wars” TV series pop up recently, or have Lucas and McCallum said anything of actual value in the last couple of months regarding them? Do you think it is possible/likely that a movie will be made out of “Angels and Demons”? – Da Vinci’s opening was huge, whether you liked it or not (I thought it was as good as it could be – basically as good as the book allowed it to be). I guess that’s it – keep up the great work on this site – Rick
A. Gee, you do know that I’ve been away with food poisoning, right? So much for ‘go soft on poor Clint’ week. OK, unfortunately, at this stage anyway, “Serenity”, “Arrested Development” and “Aquaman” are dead. As for the latter, yes, I believe they are working on a film version of it – but it won’t have anything to do with the pilot. Juicy rumours about the “Star Wars” TV series? Besides the fact that Dakota Fanning is having her hair cropped to play a young Luke Skywalker in the show? Nope, nothing. And yep, as you’ve probably already heard, “Angels and Demons” is indeed getting the cinematic treatment. I’ll be washing my hair, out of the country, when that one hits theatres.

Q.Hi, today, you will find our ad “WE WANT ANOTHER X-FILES MOVIE NOW” in “The Hollywood Reporter” Special Emmy Awards preview issue…This week, Frank Spotnitz talked a lot about “X-Files 2” – and gave different answers, each time, as to whether the film was happening or not. We don’t know what or who believe! We hope only that our action will contribute modestly to the genesis if this film we all eagerly awaiting! Perhaps with your help 🙂 Thank you, – Jean-Pascal Grijoutene
A. If the Truth is out there, I will help you find it. Here, hold the flashlight, and I’ll hold Scully.

Q.This past march I was at the William Pauley TV festival at the directors guild for the TV show “Supernatural”. In attendance, besides the cast, was Kim Manners who wrote and directed several “X files” episodes. The point being I asked him a question about the “X files” sequel film, he said and I quote “It’s dead in the water and will never happen”. So when I heard on here it was going to happen it didn’t seem right – now you are hearing that it indeed might not happen. Mr. manners said no one is interested in doing anymore “X files” films and that it will never happen. This just an update for you, I’m sure the museum of Radio and TV has some transcripts of the event. – Tim
A. Jean-Pascal, I’ve got something, over here. Quick!

Q.What’s the latest on “The Goonies 2”? – Paul Smith
A. Hey, send down the balloons, isn’t that the 100th time the question has been asked?! Yay!

Q.Any confirmation if Tom Cruise will be “Iron Man”? Or what about this joint project with Eric Bana in “3:10 to Yuma”? – Ron
A. No, your must have read wrong, after the performance of “MI:3”, it has been predicted that Cruise will merely be at home, doing housework, somewhat of an “Ironing Man”, if you will. OK, yes, he’s still in the mix, but I don’t believe there’s anything-official going on. It’s looking likely that he will jump aboard “Yuma” though, yes.

Q.Hey, what’s the deal with not reviewing Channel TEN Programmes in your ‘This Week in TV’, column? – Brandi
A. I’m sorry about that too, Brandi. Basically, we need review discs and the weekly programme guide to compile that column…and TEN haven’t added us to either list yet, so it’s really out of our hands. Apologizies.

Q.Hey Clint, Just wondering who would you cast as Gambit in “X-Men 4”? – Tony
A. Burt Reynolds. Mix in the Ghost of Jackie Gleason. Wham! “Smokey and the Gambit”!

Q. Thought I’d send this your way. I’m a huge fan of your site from Canada. Hopefully this is good news. Keep up the good work Clint ! : Thank you for writing HBO. We appreciate your enthusiasm towards our series, “DEADWOOD”. HBO is grateful that the series has such a devoted fanbase who contributed to the show’s success and making it an Emmy/Golden Globe winning HBO original. We are incredibly proud of the series and also believe it to be a powerful and authentic piece of programming. Be assured that your feedback is valued especially as we go forward with the upcoming third season, starting June 11th.
Despite recent articles on the future of our HBO original series “DEADWOOD”, there has been no decision for the future of the series, and conversations regarding a fourth season are ongoing. Since “DEADWOOD” creator David Milch is working on another HBO Original series, we’ve granted our beloved Deadwood cast the latitude to pursue other projects, for the time being.
Once again, thank you for your interest and we hope that you will continue to find HBO to be a source of quality entertainment. ~ Sincerely, HBO Consumer Affairs Department ~
– James
A. Thanks James. I tell ya, if they don’t mudda f&#^in’ renew this fu$^&n’ show, I’m gonna feed someone to the mudda f&%#$in’ pigs!

Q.Hello. On imdb.com, under “Spider-Man 3”, Topher Grace isn’t listed as Venom, no one is! I thought Topher left “That 70’s show” to film “Spider-Man 3”.? …guess not. Thanks – Nick
A. Guess again.

Q.Do you have any information on “Speed 3”? – Nathan
A. Only what I’ve said before – that there has been talk of another film, at one stage with Sandy and Keanu possibly returning, but I think, if they do it, they’ll bring in some fresh blood. I can see Robert Downey Jr doing Speed actually…. Anyway, that’s a little off-topic, sorry.

Q.Hi there. I’m looking for a picture from “Mission Impossible 3”, of a red dress that Tom Cruise’s partner was wearing on that evening they went out, Please could you help me out? Thanking you. – Kevin
A. It’s your lucky day. I’m wearing that same dress, right now! Hang five…let me take a couple of pictures with my digital camera for you and email them over.

Q.Dear Clint, At this time of the year all my bills just seem to be gaining momentum – but in the letter box today I received a lovely, welcomed letter from you. Thank you so very much for choosing me as a winner in the “Take the Lead” competition! I am a huge Antonio Banderas fan and will thoroughly enjoy this unexpected treat! Thank you, – Helen
A. My pleasure.

Q.Do not cancel “Everwood” – Kathi
A. Oh, didn’t you hear? I never accepted that job as the president of the new CW network.

Q.Tell me some of the actors that they have talked about for the role of Sam in the “Splinter Cell” movie – Kev
A. They’ve included David Boreanaz, Thomas Jane, Christopher Showerman, and most famously, Mark Wahlberg. They were the names being branded about when Peter Berg was set to direct the film, though, and since he no longer isn’t, I reckon there’s a new wish list out there somewhere. What Berg was keen to do though, I remember him telling me, was to get someone like ‘a Matt Damon’, someone you don’t normally think of being a well-built action hero, and turn them into an unlikely fighting machine. If that’s still the case, then Adam Brody is a shoe-in.

Q.Just saw “X-Men 3”. Adam must have been paid-off with freebies, or something, because it definitely wasn’t the movie he said it was. After reading his review, I thought it was going to be OK after all, but it wasn’t…it so wasn’t….it was a pale imitation of the first two. Why did it have to happen? Couldn’t they have just waited for Bryan Singer to finish “Superman Returns”? – Michael
A. Thing is, they didn’t want to wait until Bryan Singer had finished “Superman”.

Q.Hey, “Da Vinci Code” wasn’t that bad! – Robert
A. Yes it was.

Q.It was great to be able to ask Gossip Monkey questions, last week, but we didn’t get much of a warning that he was going to be doing the Mailbag…. Will he be back? – Tyke
A. Not for a while, because he’s working on a film, but I promise, next time, I will give you more notice that he is coming. You do know that I’m here every other week though, right? Not good enough, for ya? Huh!?

Q.What is MC Hammer doing now? – B
A. Recording a new commercial for sexual abuse in the workplace. “You can’t touch this…na nnnaa na, can’t touch this, na na na”. Well, I amused myself at least.

Q.Will there be a sequel to “Near Dark”? – Munit
A. I wish. Wasn’t that a great film? If Eric Red is reading this, dude, get writing. We’d all love to see a sequel to that.
