Mulan gets shifted to Disney Plus

After a number of delays thanks to the pandemic, “Mulan” has officially been moved to streaming service Disney Plus. The $200m movie will be launched on a “premiere access” basis on Sept. 4 for $29.99.

Disney Plus just surpassed 60.5 million subscribers, so the demand for hot new content is high.

“Mulan”, directed by New Zealander Niki Caro, was originally scheduled for release in late March and had already rolled out much of its marketing activities.

While the premiere access is an interesting concept, don’t expect too much of it going forward – “We’re looking at Mulan as a one-off, as opposed to saying there’s some new business windowing model that we’re looking at” said Disney boss Bob Chapek.
