Caffeinated Clint
We haven’t heard anything on that long-gestating second sequel to “3 Men and a Baby” (rumored to be titled “3 Men and a Bride”) in quite some time- and now we know why : Disney have opted to remake the original film rather than reunite Steve Guttenberg, Tom Selleck and Ted Danson for a threequel.
About ten years ago Disney were reportedly gung-ho to reunite the original trio for a new sequel to Leonard Nimoy’s box-office smash – – with Tom Selleck confirming as much in an interview in 2010.
“It is true that Disney checked my availability,” Selleck told MTV Movies Blog. “And I know they checked Ted’s and Steve’s, and then had a script written, I think tentatively called ‘Three Men and a Bride,’ which kind of says it all [about the story].”
The “Magnum P.I” alum added, “I hope it’s a good script, and if it is a good script I hope they do it, because it would be really fun to get back with Ted and Steve. The strongest of the two movies I think is the first one. It had more heart, and that’s what I hope this third one would have if we do it.”
Co-star Steve Guttenberg was in the know on it, too.
“Tom Selleck, Ted Danson and I are looking to make another Three Men and a Baby film,” Guttenberg told Empire. “It’s called Three Men and A Bride. The script is pretty much written and we are really keen to get that made. We’re very hopeful.”
Well, seems the ship sailed and Disney rented a new dingy.
Announced today, as part of their Disney Plus slate, the house of mouse has commissioned a remake of “3 Men and a Baby” – featuring, sadly, an all-new cast.
Disney have also announced remakes of “Father of the Bride”, “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” and “The Parent Trap” but I tell ya, there’s nothing sadder than knowing we’ll never get to see The Gute, The ‘Mo and ‘Sam from Cheers’ back as the ageing trio, as they usher Mary down the aisle.
