Next late ‘90s horror franchise to be rebooted? Anaconda!

A reboot of ‘90s creature-feature “Anaconda” is in the works at Sony’s Columbia Pictures.

Evan Daugherty, writer of “Tomb Raider”, has been tapped to pen the script.

The 1997 film, which featured Jennifer Lopez, Jon Voight, Ice Cube and Eric Stoltz, followed a documentary film crew in the Amazon that comes across an obsessed hunter looking to find a legendary anaconda. The hunter derails the expedition for his own purpose, with the filmmakers now forced to contend with a murderous madman and a giant snake that will squeeze the life out of them and swallow them for good measure.

The film wasn’t a critical hit but it did well enough financially to warrant three direct-to-video sequels.

The new film is described as a “reimagining” as opposed to a remake or sequel.
