Next Star Wars film hails from Game of Thrones duo

The next “Star Wars” film trilogy will be helmed by the same two chaps that… had Jon Snow leave Ghost.

“Game of Thrones” showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are already hard at work on a new non-Skywalker trilogy (in fact, it’s rumored the new films will be set during the ‘Old Republic’ – do a Google kids!), the first of which releases in 2022.

“We’re not going to wait until nine is out to start figuring it out, we’re actually hard at work doing that now,” Disney CEO Bob Iger said when asked about the future of the series following this year’s “Rise of Skywalker”. “We did a deal with David Benioff and Dan Weiss, who are famous for ‘Game of Thrones’ and the next movie that we release will be theirs, and we’re not saying anything more about that.”

Disney announced last year that Benioff and Weiss would be joining the “Star Wars” family, and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy told EW recently that the duo would slip into “Star Wars” mode after they wrapped “Thrones”.

Rian Johnston, director of the controversial “The Last Jedi”, is also developing a trilogy of new “Star Wars” films but his proposal isn’t as far along as the “Thrones” lads is.

The finale of “Game of Thrones” airs Sunday.
