Nick Cannon to host Musical Dares

Nickelodeon has ordered 10 episodes of a brand-new digital short-form series, ”Musical Dares” (working title), a new twist on the classic concept of musical chairs, set to air on Nickelodeon’s YouTube channel. Created and executive produced by multi-faceted entertainer Nick Cannon, the live-action game show will combine real kids, physical competition and a full-blown dance party. As part of the work of the Viacom Digital Studios, Musical Dares is Nickelodeon’s first original short-form series, and will begin production this summer.

“Musical Dares is the hyper-real version of the coolest house party ever,” said Nick Cannon. “It’s a game show and dance party all rolled into one big, fun, silly, messy spectacle. Bring your strategy and stamina… you will need it!”

“We are deepening audience engagement through short-form content and expanding our ability to be everywhere kids are,” said Cyma Zarghami, President, Nickelodeon Group. “With Nick Cannon at the helm, Musical Dares provides another avenue for our audience to connect with our brand in new and unexpected ways.”

”Musical Dares” is a multi-round competition, each filled with unique and messy twists, turns and physical challenges, as kid contestants dance and race to a chair once the music stops. The winning team will receive cash and music-themed prizes.

Cannon currently serves as the host of ”Lip Sync Battle Shorties”, which was just greenlit for a second season. He is also the host, creator and executive producer of the annual Nickelodeon HALO Awards, as well as TeenNick Top 10, currently in its eighth season.

”Musical Dares” is created and executive produced by Nick Cannon of NCredible Entertainment. Jay Peterson and Todd Lubin’s Matador Content is producing the project, alongside Elizabeth Kelly who also serves as showrunner and executive producer.

Nickelodeon, now in its 38th year, is the number-one entertainment brand for kids. It has built a diverse, global business by putting kids first in everything it does. The company includes television programming and production in the United States and around the world, plus consumer products, digital, recreation, books and feature films. Nickelodeon’s U.S. television network is seen in more than 90 million households and has been the number-one-rated kids’ basic cable network for 22 consecutive years. Nickelodeon and all related titles, characters and logos are trademarks of Viacom Inc. (NASDAQ: VIA, VIAB).

Kanye West developing a series about Kanye West

Because of course he is.

K.T Simpson

Because of course he is. I wish this were a joke but every part of the following article is true.

Kanye West is developing a Showtime anthology about himself called “Omniverse”, and has enlisted Jaden Smith to play his younger self.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Omniverse” is described as a limited half-hour anthology series “examining the many doors of perception.” The first season, the one for which a pilot script has been commissioned, would explore ego through the alternative reality of West.

West will also executive produce alongside Scooter Braun, Lee Sung Jin, Smith, James Shin, Scott Manson and Miguel Melendez.

Jin is scripting, and says about the project: “I’m honored and thrilled to be collaborating with everyone involved to present an alternate world through the eyes of a young man somewhere in the multiverse who happens to also be a Kanye West. Omniverse is not set in our world nor about our world’s Kanye West as we aim to add a new spin on alternate realities, consciousness, and push the limits of half hour narrative.”

I already hate it.

The Anchorman is back on the air!

With the emphasis being ‘on the air’

iHeartMedia annoucned today that Will Ferrell will reprise his ‘Anchorman’ character Ron Burgundy for a new podcast to be heard on the platform. “The Ron Burgundy Podcast” will air early 2019.

Press release follows…

The legendary newscaster Ron Burgundy and iHeartMedia, the No. 1 commercial podcast publisher globally with over 20,000 podcasts available on its iHeartRadio platform—both of whom are kind of a big deal—announced today “The Ron Burgundy Podcast.” The audio series will launch on the iHeartRadio Podcast Network in early 2019 and the iconic anchorman is beside himself with glee to once again grace the world with his presence.

“The Ron Burgundy Podcast” will be co-produced by Funny Or Die and is an iHeartRadio Original podcast. This momentous moment will mark the return of the legendary anchorman himself, Ron Burgundy, who has been delighting fans all over the world since the hit movie Anchorman was released in 2004. Burgundy has signed on for two 12-episode seasons, with season one to launch in the first quarter of 2019 and the second season expected to air mid-2019. Excerpts of the audio series will also be distributed across iHeartRadio broadcast radio stations and via social media channels.

“Listen, I don’t know what a podcast is, but I currently have a lot of time on my hands and a lot to talk about,” said Ron Burgundy, host of “The Ron Burgundy Podcast.” “I am also broke. Therefore, I am very excited to do this podcast. It is literally saving my life.”

“To be honest, we don’t want to do this podcast and we just want to get this announcement over with as soon as possible,” said Conal Byrne, President of the iHeartPodcast Network. “Ron quite literally forced us into making this podcast with him, first calling us more than one hundred times in a single day and then proceeding to actually show up at our doorstep and physically force himself into our studios. We do hope the podcast is well-received, but in the meantime, we hope by agreeing to do the announcement he will stay away.”

Ron is still represented by his long-time agent Buzzy Chanterelle of Let’s Make Magic Entertainment. Let’s Make Magic is a local San Diego agency whose roster includes mostly stunt men, magicians and animal handlers. And let’s not forget Lance Alworth, who he represented for six months, and Chuck Muncie!

“By the way, if iHeartRadio says that I harassed them into making a podcast, it is a lie!! A boldface lie!!” said Burgundy. “Did I call them one hundred times in one day? Yes! But that’s called persistence! I have filed suit against iHeartRadio for these salacious claims. I will be representing myself legally, since I currently do not have enough money to hire an attorney.”

Burgundy will release an official trailer in the coming months on iHeartRadio and everywhere else podcasts are heard.

Music : Spider-Verse, Boy Erased Music Released

Check out “Sunflower” and “Revelation” from the soundtracks of the two new films

Two new bits of music for two new movies – the following blurbs with more… (that’s lazy of us, right!?)

Republic Records, in collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment, have announced that they will release the Official Soundtrack Album for ”Spider-Man™: Into the Spider-Verse” on December 14, 2018. The film opens in theaters nationwide the same day.

Multi-platinum, chart-dominating artists Post Malone & Swae Lee are on the first single from the upcoming soundtrack, “Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse)”. The single re-teams Post & Swae Lee after the two joined forces for “Spoil My Night” from the year’s biggest multi-platinum album, beerbongs & bentleys [Republic Records].

Sony Pictures Entertainment and Republic Records have teamed up for the first time to create a contemporary musical companion for the upcoming feature film. The two camps worked closely to create a soundtrack in support of the multi-cultural protagonist of the film, Miles Morales. The music from the soundtrack will span multiple genres including Hip Hop, Latin and Pop and look to portray what a teen like Miles is listening to across the country.

From the creative minds behind ”The Lego Movie” and ”21 Jump Street”, Phil Lord & Christopher Miller, comes ”Spider-Man™: Into the Spider-Verse”, a fresh vision of a different Spider-Man Universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that’s the first of its kind. ”Spider-Man™: Into the Spider-Verse” introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask. Directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman from a screenplay by Phil Lord and Rodney Rothman and story by Phil Lord, the producers are Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, Phil Lord & Christopher Miller and Christina Steinberg.

“Post and Swae have delivered a song that’s both heroic and emotional, which is exactly what a Spider-Man story needs. It’s anthemic, but also heartfelt — the perfect soundtrack for Miles to discover the Spider-Man inside himself,” said Spring Aspers, Head of Music, Creative Affairs Worldwide for Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Motion Picture Group.

Focus Features and Back Lot Music announce the release of “Revelation”, the new original song by Troye Sivan & Jónsi written for the feature film ”Boy Erased”. The soundtrack to the film – featuring an additional original song by Jónsi and score by Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans – will release digitally on 10/26 and physically on 11/2 with the film’s theatrical release in select theaters nationwide. A vinyl component will be issued later this year with Music on Vinyl.

”Boy Erased” tells the courageous story of Jared (played by Lucas Hedges), the son of a Baptist pastor in a small American town, who is outed to his parents (Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe) at age 19. Jared is faced with an ultimatum: attend a conversion therapy program, or be permanently exiled and shunned by his family, friends and faith. Boy Erased is the true story of one young man’s struggle to find himself while being forced to question every aspect of his identity. Sivan also acts alongside Hedges as Gary, a fellow conversion therapy student.

Sivan talked about writing the song for the film during a recent tour stop in New York City, where he performed it live for the first time. “I got together with Jónsi of Sigur Rós and Leland. Joel [Edgerton, writer/director] showed us a scene from the movie, and I don’t want to spoil anything, but it’s this one moment of relief in the film. It’s this one really sweet, tender moment where Jared does something that I would consider pure and beautiful and normal and romantic. He has that experience and the sky doesn’t fall down on him. The world doesn’t come crashing down, and it’s a ‘revelation’ to him. That person that he was with is a revolution to him, and it was just so inspiring. So, we started with these lyrics of ‘you’re a revelation, you’re a revolution’.”

Sivan, who was born in South Africa and raised in Australia, came out to his family at age 14. Unlike the character of Jared, Sivan says “the only thing that saddened my parents was that I hadn’t told them sooner; that I was dealing with this alone.” He has since become one of the world’s most influential online superstars with the biggest social media footprint in Australia, and the fastest growing YouTube channel in the Australia/Asian market to date. He began his career as an actor staring opposite John Cleese in the South African franchise Spud. Sivan was recently hailed as “the Perfect Pop Star for 2018” by TIME, which pronounced his new album, Bloom (Capitol Records), as “a major artistic achievement.” Bloom was awarded four stars by Rolling Stone and has already racked up more than 700 million cumulative streams. Sivan’s numerous awards include a Billboard Music Award, three MTV EMA’s and two GLAAD Media Awards. His 2015 debut album, Blue Neighbourhood, topped the iTunes charts in 66 countries and has sold more than 2.5 million adjusted albums worldwide.

Jón þor (Jónsi) Birgisson is an Icelandic musician, best known as singer of Sigur Rós, a band he co-founded as a teenager 24 years ago. With Sigur Rós he has released seven studio albums, which have taken the band on a journey from willful obscurity to a position as one of the biggest ‘underground’ bands on the planet, building a large and ardent live fanbase all over the world. Sigur Rós’ beautifully atmospheric and often darkly dramatic work continues to defy categorization, attracting a truly broad spectrum of admirers, among them the many filmmakers. For film, Jónsi has previously written end title songs for ”How To Train Your Dragon” 1 & 2, an award-winning score for Cameron Crowe’s ”We Bought A Zoo”, and TV drama ”Manhattan”.
