Noah Wyle likely to return for The Librarian series

A TV series based on TNT’s original “The Librarian” movies is in the works, with original stars Noah Wyle, Bob Newhart and Jane Curtin likely to reprise their roles.

According to Deadline, TNT are looking at a 10-episode straight-to-series order for the Dean Devlin (“Independence Day”) produced series.

Wyle, who would executive produce the series, would only be able to do a few episodes, since he’s busy on TNT series “Falling Skies”.

The trade says the show will see Wyle’s character Flynn Carsen ‘passing the torch’, so to speak :

Tentatively titled The Librarians, the proposed series would revolve around a group of younger men and women eager to become Flynn’s successor as the protector of secret artifacts. The green light for the series is cast-contingent, hinging on finding an actress for the lead role of a strong, ass-kicking woman. I hear the character is conceived as British, with actresses like Melissa George and Rhona Mitra as prototypes.

Wyle is, of course, best known for his long-running stint on “E.R.”.
