Earlier this week, one of the trades got wind that everything between now and July will likely get pushed until late 2021 – with “Top Gun : Maverick” one of the few films still on a theatrical release schedule for the summer (but just wait…) – and seems they were right on-the-money.
The next six months is gonna be bare-bones indeed.
Bond, “Ghostbusters” and other tentpoles have all been pushed to late 2021. Also don’t count on “A Quiet Place Part II”, “F9”, “Black Widow”, “Minions” and “Morbius” holding their first quarter release dates either – I’m predicting they too will either move to late 2021 or hit streaming platforms.
Two years of retro releases it is then.
No Time to Die
As predicted, Daniel Craig’s latest hurrah as James Bond is being pushed back from April to October with “No Time to Die” relocating, once again, due to the ongoing pandemic. Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, the film will now open October 8, 2021. The film was originally due to open in April 2020.
Ghostbusters : Afterlife
Already delayed a year, Jason Reitman’s “Ghostbusters : Afterlife” is being pushed from June 11 to Nov. 11. The sequel to the classic ’80s films, starring Carrie Coon and Finn Wolfhard, was originally one of the summer’s big tentpoles.
Peter Rabbit 2
The film subtitled ‘the Runaway’ has already been rescheduled once, it now moves from April 2 to June 11.
Cinderella
Kay Cannon’s film, originally due Feb. 5, will now go out July 16.
Uncharted
The Nathan Drake flick, starring Tom Holland, is moving out of 2021 entirely. That one will now open Feb. 11, 202
