One of Julia Roberts’ earliest hits to be remade

While most studios seem intent on getting Julia Roberts back to star in sequels to his earlier hits (“Pretty Woman” and “My Best Friend’s Wedding” being two that have come up on more than one occasion), Fox Searchlight have decided to bypass the Roberts-route and go straight to reboot on their “Sleeping with the Enemy” reboot.

According to Deadline, Nia DaCosta will write and direct what’s been described as a “reimagining” of the 1991 thriller starring Roberts and Patrick Bergin. In the film – and the book on which the bit of celluloid was based – the Oscar-winning actress played a frightened woman who escapes from her abusive husband. Damian Jones (“Phantom of the Opera”) will produce the remake.

The original film, directed by genre-staple Joseph Ruben (“The Stepfather”), made for just $20 million, went to snag $175 million in coin.
