Paramount release dates: Top Gun: Maverick delays a year; A Quiet Place 2 sets date

The long-awaited sequel to 1986’s “Top Gun” has had its release date pushed back a year, with “Top Gun: Maverick” now penciled in for July 26, 2020 – from its original date of July 12, 2019.

Sources at Deadline suggest that the extension will allow for a better film, with more impressive and complex flight sequences. Alongside star Tom Cruise, “Top Gun: Maverick” will also star Miles Teller, Glen Powell, Jennifer Connelly and former Top Gun alum Val Kilmer reprising his role as Iceman. Teller plays the son of Maverick’s former partner Goose (played by Anthony Edwards), who met his end in the 1986 original. Top Gun: Maverick‘s plot is mostly under wraps but it follows Cruise’s Pete Mitchell who is now an instructor at the Top Gun school and taking Teller under his wing.

John Krasinski’s follow-up to his popular thriller “A Quiet Place” has been set for release May 15, 2020. Krasinski is penning the follow up, but hasn’t yet been confirmed as the director. He’s previously stated the plot as yet is a work in progress, but will likely explore new characters.

Meanwhile, “Sonic the Hedgehog” and “Terminator” have been moved up a week to November 8 and November 15, 2019, respectively.
