Paul Rudd joins the new Ghostbusters

Paul Rudd has answered the call to join the cast of Jason Reitman’s “Ghostbusters”, now officially titled “Ghostbusters 2020”. The news comes from Variety, with the actor confirming the casting on video (see below).

Reitman, who is the son of original “Ghostbusters” director Ivan, will direct the film, also co-writing the script with Gil Kenan.

“I’ve been wanting to work with Paul Rudd since my short film opened for ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ at Sundance. I’m thrilled he’ll be joining this new chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe” said Jason Reitman.

Carrie Coon is also in talks for the film along with “Stranger Things” star Finn Wolfhard and “Gifted” star Mckenna Grace. Whilst plot details are yet unconfirmed, word is the story will be an extension of the original “Ghostbusters” and focus on a single mom and her family, with Coon playing the mom and Wolfhard playing her son. It’s unknown how exactly it connects to the original Ghostbusters series.

Sigourney Weaver is returning as Dana Barrett, as previously confirmed by the star.

“Ghostbusters 2020” will be released next year.
