The trailer for the upcoming live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie recently dropped, and the backlash against the furry blue creature was very, very real.
The CGI version of the character was quite different to the Sega video game one we all know and love (below), showing off some human-like teeth and eyes, as well as muscular calves and all round not looking normal. As a result, director Jeff Fowler has announced that Sonic will be getting a major design-overhaul, with both Sega and Paramount standing behind the changes.
Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear… you aren't happy with the design & you want changes. It's going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be… #sonicmovie #gottafixfast ?✌️

No doubt this will result in a lot of money and time spent to adhere to fan’s demands, but let’s hope the “Sonic the Hedgehog” hate dies down as a result. No release date change has been noted as yet.
