Pirates of the Caribbean TV reboot instead of movie?

The recently-announced “Pirates of the Caribbean” reboot has laid down its anchor, with Deadline reporting that scribes Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick have exited.

And with that, news that the film – the first not to feature Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow – might be “docked for good”.

The duo were hired late last year for the film, seemingly to give the “Pirates” franchise the much needed energized touche-burn that the “Deadpool” scribes have been able to give the two Marvel movies and Sony hit “Zombieland”. For unknown reasons, they’ve walked.

Per the site, an alternative is being discussed and that’s to abandon the film series in favor of a smaller-scale “Pirates of the Caribbean” TV series. The only problem there, though, is the costs associated with putting such a series together. Still, this might be something Disney may seriously consider now that they’ve lost their golden geese.
