Promising updates on latest Star Trek and Batman movies

Both might be inching forward, albeit slowly…

Two big properties might be quietly inching forward.

The long-gestating fourth film in Bad Robot’s Star Trek movie series – which at one stage might’ve been based on a Quentin Tarantino story, and another time based on a pitch that would’ve teamed Chris Hemsworth’s George Kirk with Chris Pine’s James T.Kirk-  is showing signs of life.

J.J Abrams, producer of the recent crop of films, tells Esquire that the latest script of the film – by Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet – is a very good one.

“I will say it’s the first time [since the original reboot] that we have a story that feels as compelling as the first one.”

Unfortunately, there’s still no news on who will be replacing Matt Shakman on the film. The WandaVision helmer departed the movie several months back, opting to instead do Fantastic Four over at Marvel Studios.

Chris Pine, who’d presumably be back as Kirk, told the media this week that he’s heard nothing. “In ‘Star Trek’ land, the actors are usually the last people to find out anything. I know costume designers that have read scripts before the actors.”

On a different note, a new rumor suggests that Ben Affleck might be returning to DC – where he fronted the role of Batman for the past few years – to direct the upcoming Caped Crusader movie The Brave and The Bold.

According to Above the Line‘s Jamie Williams, the AIR director is rumoured to be taking the reins on the film, one of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s newly-announced projects over at the revamped DCU.

Whether that means Affleck would also reprise Batman in the movie is to be seen I guess?
