Redford planning sequel to "The Candidate"

It’s never too late they say. Robert Redford and screenwriter Larry Gelbart are collaborating on a continuation of The Candidate for Warner Bros., says Variety. Michael Ritchie directed the 1972 political drama about an idealistic California lawyer who makes a run for the Senate. Redford, who executive produced and starred in the original pic, plans to star in, produce and direct this "Candidate," which will feature Redford as the same character, Bill McKay, years later. The film will be based on Gelbart’s original script.
