Revenge of the Nerds reboot coming – – are the original stars involved?

“Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane is re-opening Lambda Lambda Lambda!

20th Century have commissioned a “Revenge of the Nerds” reboot (yep, they’ve been trying to resurrect this brand for a while) with Keith and Kenny Lucas (“22 Jump Street,” “Judas and the Black Messiah”) tapped to write and star in the film. The duo – pictured below – will co-write with Alex Rubens (“Key and Peele,” “Rick and Morty”). MacFarlane, whose film work include “Ted” and its sequel and “A Million Ways to Die in the West” produces alongside Erica Huggins.

Just a couple of months back we reported that 20th Century (now housed at Disney) had been in contact with a couple of the original players, including Robert Carradine (‘Lewis’), about returning for a new “Revenge of the Nerds” film.  This is assumingly that film. If the cast of the ’80s original- and it’s three sequels return – it’s likely they’ll fill the roles of the parents of the new ‘nerds’.

Timothy Busfield, Larry B.Scott, Curtis Armstrong, Brian Tochi and Andrew Cassese were among that original line-up, along with Anthony Edwards who went on to, of course, big-time TV fame.

Variety, who have the scoop on the MacFarlane anointment, say the film isn’t a remake but only because the 1984 film “hasn’t aged that well”.  Instead, says the trade, the new film will pontificate about today’s nerd culture and what even constitutes a geek in the 21st century.

Readers of the site will recall that “Fanboys” helmer was attached to a “Revenge of the Nerds” remake a few years back, with Adam Brody and Dan Byrd starring. After two weeks of filming, the production was shut down.

“The studio didn’t know what movie they wanted to make, and I didn’t want to make a film about stereotypical nerds”, Newman told Moviehole in 2009. “Unfortunately, that’s what the studio wanted – the old stereotype with the glasses and so on.”
