Reynolds, Johnson and Gadot join heist-thriller Red Notice!

Netflix is gearing up for what’s looking to be one of its biggest film endeavours yet in the form of Red Notice.

Originally in production over at Universal Pictures, the latest project from writer-director Rawson Marshall Thurber (Skyscraper, Central Intelligence, We’re the Millers) has shifted over to Netflix.

With the thumbs-up from its new home at the streaming giant, Red Notice is described as a “globe-trotting action-thriller” and will star Ryan Reynolds, Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot. Reynolds is the latest addition to the cast, joining Johnson and Gadot who were already on board when the film was first green-lit at Universal.

Deadline describes the film as “an international action thriller entered around the pursuit of the most wanted art thief in the world”, adding that it takes place in multiple countries.

There’s no word so far on whether Red Notice will be given a theatrical release like Netflix did – unusually so – for Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma, which had a brief theatrical run in selected theatres across the United States back in November 2018. As THR reported earlier this year, Martin Scorsese was angling for a theatrical release for his upcoming Netflix film The Irishman, although there seems to have been no further word on whether he was successful in convincing them. Perhaps we’ll see this one on the big screen too!

Red Notice is slated to begin production in 2020; no release date has been set.
