Ricky Gervais to star in Muppets sequel

Ricky Gervais will star in the next “Muppets” movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Gervais, whose cameo was cut from 2011’s “The Muppets”, will play the lead human character in the James Bobin-directed sequel. Ty Burrell (“Modern Family”) is already onboard, playing an Interpol inspector in the film, which sees the gang head to London and get caught up in some kind of Caper.

The script is being kept under wraps, as such there’s no details on Gervais’s character.

The untitled film begins filming in January.
