Rise of Skywalker offers new answer to ‘Who Are Rey’s Parents’?

As far as the naysayers go, one of the big disappointments of “The Last Jedi” was finding out that our heroine’s parents weren’t, well, anyone in particularly special at all (in other words, she’s apparently not related to any OG heroes from the franchise) – at least according to the late Commander Snoke.

With “Force Awakens” helmer J.J Abrams again donning the director’s cap  – inheriting the Nikon from Rian Johnston, who directed the previous installment – for “Star Wars : The Rise of Skywalker”, it’s been widely suggested that the filmmaker might undo some of the elements in the previous film.

Abrams confirmed as much in an interview with ABC News, suggesting that he’s put his own spin on the ‘Who are Rey’s parents?’ question.

“I will say that we knew, going into this, that this movie, it had to be a satisfying conclusion. And we were well aware that that’s one of the things that’s been out there. I don’t want to say that what happens in Episode 8 [didn’t happen]. We have honored that. But I will say that there’s more to the story than you’ve seen.”

As for how Abrams will conclude the film, also the end of a nine-film saga, actress Daisy Ridley tells GMA that she isn’t quite sure…

“J.J. had told me [the ending], and then I read the script, and then it was sort of shifting. The ending was always pretty similar, and then I was told there was sort of a new – I guess a slightly different beat added that I was told, which was awesome. Because it’s nice to be told the thing and then you can like experience it with the filmmaker. But also, we don’t know how it’s gonna turn out. We did the thing on this side of the camera, so we don’t know how it’s gonna turn out. So I’m as excited to see it as everyone else.”

Meanwhile, rumors are brewing that, in addition to Ian McDiarmid’s Emperor Palpaine, the film might’ve also found a way – hello, Force Ghosts! – to bring back Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker.

“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” hits cinemas on December 20th.
