Rob Marshall the frontrunner for The Little Mermaid

Rob Marshall looks to reunite with Disney on the live action adaptation of ’80s animated classic “The Little Mermaid”, says Deadline.

Marshall, who recently completed “Mary Poppins Returns” for the studio, has emerged as the top choice to direct Ariel’s new bigscreen venture. The “Chicago” helmer will respond to the studio’s offer after the Christmas break.

The live-action “Little Mermaid” will feature new songs from “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken. Miranda and Marc Platt are producing.
