Rob Schneider developing new sketch-comedy series!?

Is Rob Schneider developing a new sketch comedy series to rival NBC mainstay “Saturday Night Live”?

It would seem so – or in the least, the “Real Rob” and “Deuce Bigalow” star is interested in seeing whether there’s an appetite for one.

Speaking to his fans on Twitter on New Year’s Day, Schneider – who, quite frankly, doesn’t get the love he deserves (serious, go check out his supporting turns in the Sandler films again, or better still, “The Hot Chick”) – checked the temperature on a possible new sketch series “with no political agenda”, as he puts it.

Schneider (one of my personal favourite interviews – he’s very down-to-earth but also super intelligent; always a joy, sir) is obviously referring to “SNL”, which, let’s admit is, is quite “politicized” these days. Back in its heyday, the show – or “Mad TV” or “In Living Color”, for that matter- weren’t so concerned with mimicking controversial politicians and blessing better ones as they were just having good, well-written sketches. Not to say “SNL” isn’t worthwhile these days, it’s anything but, but there’s definitely room for an alternative series that skips the Trump impersonations and focuses more on the kind of wacky not-so-PC humor that use to occupy the show back when Schneider was on it. Just genuine giggles without bias. And if Schneider can get some of his buddies involved- maybe Spade and Rock, for starters – he could be onto something.

Schenider’s most recent work includes parts in the Adam Sandler-starrers “Sandy Wexler” and “The Ridiculous 6” and Netflix comedy series “Real Rob”.
