Robocop reboot still gunning for Peter Weller

While the actor is rumoured to have already turned the part down, brass behind the upcoming “Robocop” reboot seem determined to get Peter Weller back for the film.

“RoboCop Returns”, as writer Ed Neumeier tells HN Entertainment, has been written as a direct sequel to the 1987 original. In order to maintain that continuity, the team – in particular, director Neil Blomkamp, who is currently doing some revisions on the script -want the original Alex Murphy back.

“His idea is that it should be the proper Verhoeven… if Verhoeven had directed a movie right after RoboCop… I think that’s what he is trying to achieve. Blomkamp wants to bring back Peter Weller and what you get when you do that, if you use the DNA of the old property in the new, is that you get something that shares continuity and fans can embrace the brand.”

Weller is now 71 years-old, so it will likely take some sturdy nudging to get him back in that get-up.
