While the previous incarnation of the sequel – with a black female Rocketeer inheriting the jetpack from Billy Campbell’s Cliff Secord – never came to pass, sounds like Disney’s newly hatched follow-up to the Joe Johnston directed “The Rocketeer” (1991) is coming together.
According to Deadline, Disney+’s “The Return of the Rocketeer” will be produced by “Selma” star David Oyelowo and Jessica Oyelowo under their Yoruba Saxon banner, with Ed Ricourt on scripting duties. Oyelowo is eyeing the starring role.
Ricourt’s story for the live-action movie focuses on a retired Tuskegee airman who takes up the Rocketeer mantle.
