Following the recent exit of Chris Miller and Phil Lord as directors of Star Wars spinoff “Han Solo”, THR have reported that Ron Howard has officially taken on the role.
Updated: “I hope to honor the great work already done & help deliver on the promise of a Han Solo film,” Howard tweeted Thursday afternoon.
Miller and Lord were directing the film for over 4 months before they were let go citing “creative differences”. Given how far into the principal photography they were, it was a big move that will hopefully pay off for the yet-untitled film.
Howard is no stranger to the directorial role, and will no doubt have a keen eye for the production and its direction. He has previously worked with George Lucas as an actor in 1973’s “American Graffiti” and helmed 1988’s “Willow”. He also revealed in a podcast in 2015 that he had been approached by Lucas to direct “The Phantom Menace”.

With that in mind, we’re thrilled to announce that Ron Howard will step in to direct the untitled Han Solo film. We have a wonderful script, an incredible cast and crew and the absolute commitment to make a great movie.”
The film is expected for a May 25, 2018 release.
