Caffeinated Clint
According to THR, Jennifer Garner and Nick Nolte are in talks to play the Susan and Burt Johnson roles, respectively, in Jason Winer’s “Arthur” update – only Susan and Bart Johnson are now Greta Gerwig and father (Why they’ve changed the names of those characters, I don’t know -I mean, it’s not as if there’s not a bunch of kids being christened Susan and Bart still, day in day out!).
Same deal as the original film – The Greta/Susan (Garner) character is to marry Russell Brand’s alcoholic playboy Arthur, if he wants to hang onto his inheritance; Arthur, of course, only has eyes for street-walker Linda (still uncast)- but if he chooses her, he loses his fortune. Nolte is Greta’s deeply religious father, who won’t dare see his little girl hurt.
Helen Mirren is also onboard the Warner Bros pic, playing Arthur’s long-time Nanny (as opposed to the long-serving Butler Hobson that John Gielguld played in the original).
