Sequel briefs : Knives Out, Upgrade, Mad Max

In January, it was announced that a sequel to “Knives Out” was likely on the way after the bonza success of Rian Johnson’s film at the box office. Today, Lionsgate officially announced the sequel, with CEO Jon Feltheimer telling investors and journalists on a quarterly earnings call that the project was officially in development – suggesting it might even be a franchise that continues for quite some time. A sequel to “Upgrade” was first mooted a couple of months back, with producer Jason Blum, hinting that something was in development. Director Leigh Whannell, speaking this week at a screening for “The Invisible Man” downunder, sings a different tune : The Australian filmmaker says he doesn’t have “any plans at the moment for a sequel” adding that he’s been “so busy making (The Invisible Man)” that it’s not something he’s had time to consider.
