Shane Black writing Lethal Weapon 5!

Shortly after his drunken say-first-pay-later diatribe in Malibu in 2006, Warner Bros offered Mel Gibson a ‘’Lethal Weapon 5’’ – if only because they knew he’d knock it back at any other time (than when his career was on the skids) and has. Surely Gibbo would want to get back in with the public after his impertinent comments? Nope. Gibson didn’t want a bar of it. Martin Riggs was dead to him.

Cut to two years later. Gibson’s leisurely climbing the stepladder again. Most people have accepted his act of contrition. And he’s about to actually “star” in a movie again (“Edge of Darkness”, filming later this month, is about a cop who goes after the thugs that murdered his daughter). Surely he’s not interested in a “Lethal Weapon 5” now, right?

Well, Colour-me-Badd (remember them? I wanna sex you up… all night…) because both Mel.. and Danny Glover… want in!

TrackingB.com via ComingSoon.net say Shane Black, the writer of the original “Lethal Weapon”, and producer Joel Silver, are hammering away at a new script. In it “homicidal Riggs (Mel Gibson) is about to retire, but pulls Murtaugh (Danny Glover) out of retirement to solve one final case, before they both officially head off into the sunset.”

Shane Black is the man. If anyone can give us a good Lethal Weapon sequel – – it’d be him.

Count us in!
