The Ruby Rose-starring “Batwoman” pilot is a go at The CW.

Seasoned superhero-series helmer David Nutter (“Arrow”, “The Flash”) is onboard to direct. Though known for directing episodes across the Arrowverse in recent years, Nutter’s work on the “Smallville” pilot was lauded by critics and fans. In recent years, has also directed acclaimed episodes of “Game of Thrones”, “Supernatural” and “Roswell”. In 2015, he received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, for his work on “Thrones”.

“Smallville” wasn’t Nutter’s first superhero series – that honor belongs to “Superboy”, of which he directed 21 episodes – but it’s definitely the one that helped carve his career as the go-to man for all future pilots featuring costumed heroes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network decided on Thursday to push forward with the “Batwoman” series. The character, Kate Kane, made her debut in The CW’s three-way DC Comic series crossover ‘Elseworlds’ last month.

Here’s the official synopsis : Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane [Rose] soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”

Following an internet backlash against her casting last year, Rose (“Orange is the New Black”) quit Twitter.
