Smallville and Supernatural to return

Animated Clark Kent series and Winchesters prequel in the works

Two past hits of ‘The Frog’ are set to make a triumphant return – both with a twist.

First, former “Smallville” stars Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum are working on an animated sequel series to the WB hit.  Welling, who played Clark Kent on the series – which concluded in 2011 – revealed in a Cameo video that they’re wanting to use as many of the original cast members as possible”.

Meantime, “Supernatural” will return to the air with a prequel series about the Winchester family. According to Deadline, new iteration “The Winchesters”, centering on Dean and Sam Winchester’s parents, will see Jensen Ackles reprise his Dean Winchester character as a narrator of the new show. Ackles and wife Danneel will executive produce the series, which has a script commitment at the CW.

“After Supernatural wrapped its 15th season, we knew it wasn’t over. Because like we say in the show, ‘nothing ever really ends, does it?’” Jensen Ackles told Deadline. “When Danneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester, or rather the Supernatural origin story. I always felt like my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents’ relationship and how it came to be. So I love the thought of having him take us on this journey.”
