So light ’em up, up, up! Denzel Washington as the new Green Lantern?

An African American dude wearing a green tracksuit must have been spotted sharing a bottle of powerade in the gym with Ben Affleck because all of a sudden Denzel Washington’s playing Green Lantern in “Batman vs. Superman”.

According to Nuke The Fridge, Washington is the studio pick to wear the emerald slacks in the “Man of Steel” follow-up (that has since transformed into a “Justice League” movie; in addition to Henry Cavill’s Superman and Ben Affleck’s Batman, Gal Gadot was recently paid a few bucks and a smile to don the Wonder Woman costume. Even The Flash is rumoured to be making an appearance), due 2015. Whether that’s true or not? well.. only the empty bottle of orange powerade really knows.

Washington’s name first surfaced in relation to the project a few weeks back, but at that time he was said to be circling the Lex Luthor role in the film (a role now said to be Joaquin Phoenix’s – if he wants it).

Washington’s understandably a go-to guy for a lot of these big blockbuster flicks, but as we saw with “Fast & Furious 7” – in which he was offered the role of the villain – he customarily passes on these sorts of gigs, too. But maybe it wouldn’t hurt him to consider something like this? After all, he could do being a film that people actually want to see.

One can’t imagine ‘Malcolm X’ jumping out of his skin to take over from where Ryan Reynolds left off as Superman’s ring-donning superhero sidekick (though, he’d apparently play John Stewart, not Hal Jordan, the incarnation of the ‘Lantern’ that Reynolds played) but one can’t doubt he’d – like Affleck – add some weight to the project if he decided to do it.
