Sofia Coppola to remake The Beguiled with Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst & Elle Fanning

Sofia Coppola is set to write, direct and produce a remake of the 1971 Civil War romance “The Beguiled”, which starred Clint Eastwood.

Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning are attached to star in the film which will reportedly be a new take on the original movie which was based on Thomas P. Cullian’s Southern Gothic novel.

“Set during the Civil War, a young girl from an all-female Confederate boarding school comes across an injured Union soldier. The school takes him in to help him recover, but he cons his way into their hearts and the women start to fight with him and each other for his attention” (via The Tracking Board).

Kidman will play Martha Farnsworth, the Head Mistress of the school, while Fanning will play a girl residing at the house and Dunst will play a teacher.

The male lead (previously played by Eastwood) is yet to be cast.
