Star Wars Episode IX Title : The Rise of Skywalker

In what was likely a bigger game of back and forth than an Olympics table tennis match, Lucasfilm and Disney have settled on and consequently announced the title of this December’s new “Star Wars” film :

The Rise of Skywalker

The announcement was made at Star Wars Celebration, where JJ Abrams and the cast of the film appeared on stage to reveal all to a hyped Chicago audience of many.

Just prior to the panel, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that this would be the final “Star Wars” film in a while; the studio are giving the film franchise a well earned rest.

“There are movies in development, but we have not announced them”, he said. “We will take a pause, some time, and reset because the Skywalker saga comes to an end with this ninth movie. There will be other Stars Wars movies, but there will be a bit of a hiatus.”

As for this ‘ninth’ movie?

“The thing I think about all the time is the responsibility we have,” said Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy, “this one in particular. This is the third act of a three act structure. We’ve immersed ourselves into everything George [Lucas] created.”

“What you end up seeing, you’ll be happy with,” added Kennedy.

“Star Wars : ” will be released December 9.
