Steve Carell’s latest bypasses theaters; streaming release set for June

The Jon Stewart written/directed “Irresisible”, starring Steve Carell and Rose Byrne, is bypassing theaters.

The announcement was made today by Focus Features, who say the political comedy will hit streaming platforms instead on June 26.

The film tells of a Democrat political consultant (Carell) who helps a retired Marine colonel (Chris Cooper) run for mayor in a small Wisconsin town.

Mackenzie Davis, Topher Grace, and Natasha Lyonne also star in the film, which reunites Carell with his former “Daily Show” boss Jon Stewart.

“Irresistible” is merely the latest in a string of high-profile films that’s had to forgo a theatrical release in lieu of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. Just last week Sony announced that Tom Hanks starrer “Greyhound” will now be premiering on AppleTV+ as opposed to the multiplexes.
