Steven Spielberg eyes director’s chair for DC film Blackhawk

Steven Spielberg is on board to produce his first ever DC film for Warner Bros. “Blackhawk”, and also is eyeing the chance to direct. Warner Bros. and Spielberg teamed up for “Ready Player One”, with Spielberg commenting on his excitement to team up again:

“It was wonderful working with the team at Warner Bros. to bring “Ready Player One” to the screen. They bring a blend of passion and professionalism to everything they do and have a tremendous history in this genre. I am excited to reunite with them on “Blackhawk”.’”

In the “Blackhawk” series, the Blackhawks are a small team of War War II ace pilots who are led by an enigmatic leader, Blackhawk. In the comic book, they operate out of a hidden base known as Blackhawk Island and battle Axis forces, but also foes such as King Condor and Killer Shark, and a line of femme fatales.

The screenplay for Blackhawk is being penned by David Koepp. Spielberg will produce the film together with Kristie Macosko Krieger, under Amblin Entertainment, while Sue Kroll will executive produce, under her Kroll & Co. Entertainment shingle.

Warner Bros. Pictures Group Chairman Toby Emmerich made the announcement on the collaboration, noting: “We are so proud to be the studio behind Steven Spielberg’s latest hit, and are thrilled to be working with him again on this new action adventure. We can’t wait to see what new ground he will break in introducing “Blackhawk” to movie audiences worldwide.”
