The sequel to 2016’s “Suicide Squad” is getting a change in director, with Gavin O’Connor tapped by Warner Bros to write and direct the second coming. With David Ayer putting his time into “Gotham City Sirens”, “The Accountant” director is stepping up to the job (via Variety).
“Suicide Squad 2” will see the return of characters Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), and the Joker (Jared Leto), and production looks likely to start by early 2018, alongside other DC effort “Shazam!”.
While the original film didn’t get rave reviews, it proved to be a box office success, locking in a sequel for Warner Bros. O’Connor will also be directing a sequel to Ben Affleck flick “The Accountant”.
