Well, it was bound to happen one day : Sly Stallone to play superhero!

23 years after bringing Judge Dredd to the screen, and a year or so after his surprise appearance as Stakar Ogord of the Ravagers in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2“, action movie staple Sylvester Stallone is said to bring another comic book character to the big screen.

MGM, who Sly worked with on the “Rocky” series, has snagged the rights to a new dark superhero movie titled “Samaritan”, says Deadline. Stallone will assumingly play the title role  – but the shingle are keeping details under wraps right now. So what’s taken Sly’s interest here? well, apparently the script – from screenwriter Bragi F. Schut – isn’t your token superhero flick, it offers somewhat of a twist on the ever-present superhero flick.

Stallone is producing the film through his newly-formed Balboa productions.

While it’s unlikely he’ll don a cape and mask in the film, Stallone has flirted with superhero movies before – he lobbied hard to play the title role in Richard Donner’s “Superman” in the ’70s and later, was considered for the role of Mr. Freeze in Warner’s ill-fated “Batman & Robin” before Arnold Schwarzenegger agreed to embarrass himself instead.

What’s this Ghostbusters outrage all about?
