TCA : Supernatural spin-off? don’t count on it!

Despite the ostensible uneasiness in letting it go, The CW has no plans to continue the soon-to-wrap “Supernatural” with any sort of prequel series. CW president Mark Pedowitz said at this morning’s TCA executive session that, unlike the network’s superhero stable of shows, the long-running “Supernatural” will never spawn a ‘verse’ of it’s own.

While actors Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki seem open to possible return appearances – in whatever and whenever – network brass seem convinced this is the end for “Supernatural” as we know it.

“I’m not ready to close doors or burn bridges — that would be foolish,” Ackles said/ “Is something in the works? No. Am I open to having a conversation in the future? Why not?”

Padalecki, speaking on an abandoned “Supernatural” spin-off – 2017’s “Wayward Sisters” – that didn’t pass muster, added, “I hesitate to maybe accept the idea that spinoffs didn’t work. They were great, I’m proud to have been parts of those episodes. They didn’t fit, I suppose.”

“I do hope we see more of the Supernatural universe.”

“I’ve been involved in two spinoffs that did not connect”, Pedowitz said. “We’ve had no further discussions whatsoever in terms of a Supernatural spinoff. I tend to believe that, at this point, the show’s essence is Jared and Jensen.”

While he did confirm nothing is in the works, Pedowitz is open to “Supernatural” making some sort of return down the line.

“Fifteen years is a remarkable achievement,” the boss-man said. “Now I get a little sad. You will always have a home here, and you will always have a personal fan in me.”
