Terminator : Genisys scribe boards Star Wars movie

A long-rumoured film based on the “Star Wars” video game series “Knights of the Old Republic” is said to be inching forward.

According to Buzzfeed, “Terminator : Genisys” scribe Laeta Kalogridis has scored the job of penning the first in what’s envisioned to be a series of films set 4,000 years before the events of 1977’s “A New Hope”.

Lucasfilm has mentioned their enthusiasm for “Old Republic”  numerous times, suggesting it was inevitable a feature based on the material would eventually materialize.

It’s even been heavily speculated that the new “Star Wars” movie trilogy that “Game of Thrones” alumni David Benioff and D.B Weiss have been hired to direct is based on the concept. No official word on that.

The story takes place almost 4000 years before the formation of the Galactic Empire, where Darth Malak, a Dark Lord of the Sith, has unleashed a Sith armada against the Republic. The player character, as a Jedi, must venture to different planets in the galaxy in order to defeat Malak. Players choose from three character classes and customize their characters at the beginning of the game, and engage in round-based combat against enemies. Through interacting with other characters and making plot decisions, the alignment system will determine whether the player’s character aligns with the light or dark side of the Force.

In addition to the last “Terminator” film, Kalogridis wrote “Shutter Island”, “Alita : Battle Angel”, “Pathfinder”, “Alexander” and “Avatar”. She most recently wrote the series “Sword Art Online”.
