A couple of days ago, word trickled out from the shaft of the interweb that Harrison Ford was going to dance the Rick Deckard mumble again, negotiating to appear in Alcon and director Ridley Scott’s “Blade Runner” sequel. Despite previous denials that Ford would be involved in the film, the source behind the new rumour has such a good rep that it was hard to dismiss it as a manure truck fodder. As such, we “Blade Runner” and Ford fans did a jig. Even held a whip-cracking contest in the man’s honor over the weekend.
So much for putting that together. Alcon now says Ford is not involved in the film.
Deadline spoke to producer Andrew Kosove, who said that there has not been any such talk with Ford about reprising his character from the 1982 classic.
It is absolutely patently false that there has been any discussion about Harrison Ford being in Blade Runner. To be clear, what we are trying to do with Ridley now is go through the painstaking process of trying to break the back of the story, figure out the direction we’re going to take the movie and find a writer to work on it. The casting of the movie could not be further from our minds at this moment.
Kosove suggests the new film will go the way of Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus” – and have little to do with the original films that gave birth to their existence.
It’s like asking if we’re going to make the sky red or blue, there has been no discussion about it. What Ridley does in Prometheus is a good template for what we’re trying to do. He created something that has some association to the original Alien, but lives on its own as a standalone movie.
When asked whether there’s any chance Ford might be approached later on, Kosove gave an almost hes-hiding-something answer :
In advance of knowing what we’re going to do, I supposed you could say yes, he could. But I think it is quite unlikely
Meantime, we wait in anticipation for word on Ford’s involvement in the 3D sequel to “The Mosquito Coast”.
