The Killer reboot loses star

Appearing at the Hawaii International Film Festival, director John Woo revealed that Lupita Nyong’o is no longer attached to star in a remake of his classic film “The Killer”.

“There was a scheduling problem because she’s so popular right now!” said Woo about Nyong’o’s exit. “We rewrote the script and it took so much time…she had to leave for another project.”

Woo said it’ll still be a woman fronting the remake of the Universal offering, the development of which coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Chow Yun-Fat starring original.

“The biggest reason why I wanted to do this movie again because [I wanted] ‘the killer’ to be a woman — that’s exciting to me,” said Woo. “It will make the movie have a different look.”

The filmmaker noted that it won’t necessarily be an action star in the role, acknowledging his gift to make any actress look like an action star.
