The Sopranos prequel film in the works

“Sopranos” creator David Chase is returning to his familiar turf and reviving it with a prequel film in the works through New Line. Titled “The Many Saints of Newark”, the screenplay is set in the era of the Newark riots in the 60s. That was a time when the African-Americans and the Italians of Newark were at each other’s throats, and amongst the gangsters of each group, those conflicts became especially lethal (via Deadline).

“The Sopranos” ran for 6 seasons on HBO from 1999 – 2007 and earnt a long list of awards. The show starred the late James Gandolfini, Edie Falco, Steven Van Zandt, Lorraine Bracco, Michael Imperioli, Dominic Chianese, Steve Schirripa and many many more.

No word yet on plot details, but word is some of the show’s characters will return for the flick.

Warner Bros Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich stated ,regarding the project:

“David is a masterful storyteller and we, along with our colleagues at HBO, are thrilled that he has decided to revisit, and enlarge, the Soprano universe in a feature film.”
