Aussie Chris Hemsworth will return home for “Thor : Love and Thunder”, the newest instalment in Marvel’s “Thor” franchise that will lens at Fox Studios Australia, Sydney.
The Australian and NSW governments are providing over $16.7 million (AUS$24.1 million) in incentives to lure the production, to be directed by Taika Waititi, down under.
Natalie Portman and Tessa Thompson co-star opposite Hemsworth in the film, with pre-production set to begin in March.
Hemsworth, reprising Thor for the first time since “Avengers : Endgame”, tells media : “It’s an interesting feeling after Endgame because it was like, where do you go from there, but it’s about making great films and to still be a part of the Marvel/Disney family and to be able to make another film is fantastic”
“Following the recently announced Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Marvel Studios is pleased to announce our third tentpole feature to be produced in Australia and follows our highly positive experience from Thor: Ragnarok. Shooting Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringsand Thor: Love and Thunder back-to-back will provide local crews with sustained, continuous employment opportunities. We will be working with local educational institutions in creating internship opportunities and would like to thank the Federal Arts Minister Paul Fletcher and the New South Wales Arts Minister Don Harwin for their invaluable support,” said Marvel vice president David Grant.
“Thor : Love and Thunder”, which features Portman as a female version of Thor, was announced at Comic-Con last week.
