In a retrospective yak with Empire for this past summer’s “Mission : Impossible – Fallout”, director Christopher McQuarrie and star Tom Cruise noted that they’re currently working on their ninth film together – “Top Gun : Maverick”.
McQuarrie is polishing a script by Peter Craig, Justin Marks and Eric Warren Singer. The filmmaker is no stranger to punching up Cruise scripts, having also worked the 11th hour on “Mission Impossible : Ghost Protocol” and “Edge of Tomorrow”.
Cruise and McQuarrie were spotted in L.A together a week ago, suggesting the latter’s work on the film is happening as we speak.

Meanwhile, filming is still in full swing in San Diego on the Joseph Kosinski-directed sequel with both Cruise and Val Kilmer spotted in the area. Some quick Twitter bugs have also captured some of the sets crafted for the film.
According to Task and Purpose, a bar was built for the movie – named The Hard Deck. Said to be “close to the ocean” with “beach chairs surrounding its exterior, in addition to an outdoor patio and fire pit”, this is the likely the hangout that Jennifer Connelly’s love interest- a bar owner, as per previous reports – runs.
