TV : Power II, Designing Women, Will & Grace, Designated Survivor

Mary J. Blige (“Rock of Ages”, “The Umbrella Academy”) is joining the cast of the first “Power” sequel, “Power Book II: Ghost.”

Also announced during the TCA session, “Power” season six will be broadcast in two parts. The 10-episode Part I will debut as previously announced on Sunday, August 25th. Part II, which will consist of the final five episodes, will debut in January.

 

Today, in a deal with Sony Pictures Television, Hulu has announced that it has acquired the rights to fan favorite comedy “Designing Women” set to stream on Hulu August 26…Women’s Equality Day!

The iconic, trailblazing comedy which ran on CBS from 1986-1993, follows outspoken owner Julia Sugarbaker (Dixie Carter), as she runs a design firm out of her Atlanta home along with her self-absorbed, ex-beauty queen sister, Suzanne (Delta Burke), divorced sassy mother Mary Jo (Annie Potts), and naive country girl Charlene (Jean Smart). The feminist, feisty, females discuss everything going on in their lives, from sex and love to politics and religion, all in the confines of their Victorian Georgian office. Ex-con handyman and token male of the series, Anthony Bouvier (Meshach Taylor), offers his help not only at the firm, but also offers his opinions on all of the ladies personal matters.

The 7 seasons kick-off August 26.

“Will & Grace,” one of NBC’s most beloved comedy series of all time, is coming to an end as Will Truman, Grace Adler, Jack McFarland and Karen Walker will say goodbye to their incredibly loyal fans following the upcoming season that begins in 2020.

The series will conclude following an 11-season, 246-episode run over the course of four decades as one of the most influential sitcoms of our generation.

FX has ordered “The Old Man”, a drama starring Jeff Bridges as a retired CIA officer, it was announced today by Nick Grad and Gina Balian, Presidents, Original Programming, FX Entertainment.

Written by Jon Steinberg & Robert Levine, The Old Man is executive produced by Warren Littlefield, Steinberg, Dan Shotz, Levine, Jeff Bridges and David Schiff. The series is produced by Fox 21 Television Studios in association with The Littlefield Company. Production of the pilot episode begins this fall.

“Jeff Bridges is an iconic, extraordinary actor and to have him as the star of this series is an incredible moment for FX,” said Grad. “Jon Steinberg and Robert Levine have delivered an amazing pilot script and Jeff is perfect for the role of Dan Chase. We’re also happy to be working with Warren Littlefield, with whom we’ve had such a terrific partnership on Fargo, along with our partners at Fox 21.”

Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Thomas Perry, “The Old Man” centers on “Dan Chase” (Jeff Bridges) who absconded from the CIA decades ago and has been living off the grid since. When an assassin arrives and tries to take Chase out, the old operative learns that to ensure his future he now must reconcile his past.

Netflix has cancelled Kiefer Sutherland series “Designated Survivor”.

We’re also grateful to showrunner/executive producer Neal Baer for his guiding vision and steady hand, creator/executive producer David Guggenheim and EPs Mark Gordon, Suzan Bymel, Simon Kinberg, Aditya Sood and Peter Noah along with the cast and crew who crafted a compelling and satisfying final season.”
Hulu is developing a TV series adaptation of British novel “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” with Carlton Cuse (“Jack Ryan) and feature writer Jason Fuchs (“Wonder Woman”) spearheading. The series follows the intergalactic adventures of Arthur Dent, a hapless Englishman, following the destruction of Earth by the Vogons, a race of unpleasant and bureaucratic aliens.
