Showtime has ordered the first eight-episode season of the ongoing drama series “Ripley”, based on Patricia Highsmith’s bestselling quintet of Tom Ripley novels. “Sherlock” alum Andrew Scott will star in the title role of Tom Ripley. Steven Zaillian (”The Night Of”) will write and direct the entire first season.
In the series, Tom Ripley, a grifter scraping by in early 1960s New York, is hired by a wealthy man to travel to Italy to try to convince his vagabond son to return home. Tom’s acceptance of the job is the first step into a complex life of deceit, fraud and murder.
“We are so thrilled to have the supremely talented filmmaker, Steve Zaillian, adapt the singular saga of Tom Ripley from Patricia Highsmith’s novels as an ongoing series for SHOWTIME,” said Levine. “With Andrew Scott, whose charisma knows no bounds, inhabiting the iconic lead role, we feel confident that this will be a special one.”
Meantime, a spin-off of The CW’s “Arrow”, fixing on the grown-up daughter of Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak, is in development at The CW.
In addition to Katherine McNamara’s Mia Smoak. Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy will all reprise their roles from the parent series, says Deadline.
Cassidy and Harkavy reprise the Canaries Laurel Lance and Dinah Drake, respectively.
The project, which comes from Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros Television, is being set up as a backdoor pilot that will air as episode from the upcoming eighth and final season of “Arrow”. It will be written by Beth Schwartz, Marc Guggenheim, Jill Blankenship and Oscar Balderrama.
Oliver and Felicity’s kid was introduced in the Season 7 episode Star City 2040, which was set in the future as the title suggests. She will be a series regular in the upcoming eighth season
