Twilight fans react to news franchise may be rebooted!

Over the weekend our friends at Bloody Disgusting, who have an impeccable track record with scoops, reported that Lionsgate plans to reboot “Twilight” once the current incarnation is done.

The news sent shock-waves through the Twilight community, most of whom stated that without Robert Pattinson or Kristen Stewart involved nobody would go see “Twilight” 2.0.

Said the site :

November 21, 2008. That’s what, a little less than four years ago? Since then Summit Entertainment has released four Twilight adaptations, with the fifth and final arriving on November 16. By the five year anniversary, Lionsgate, who acquired Summit back in January for $412.5 million in cash and stock, will be in serious discussions regarding the future of the Stephenie Meyer vampire/werewolf franchise.
They’ll deny it, right here, right now. We’ll get plenty of eggs in our face. Sites will burn us at the stake like a witch during the Salem trials. Still, the fact will remain: it’s true.
In fact, they’re already discussing it internally. It will happen.
Twilight will return. It will never leave. It is eternal. Prepare to weep for another decade.
It is still undecided exactly what the future of the franchise will be, though. It could be a direct remake, considering the initial saga is so poorly made, but then again it could also be a spinoff or maybe even a one-off sequel. It could be anything to keep the green bills piling high. But expect a remake. Yes, quickly.
Lionsgate’s needs a fresh franchise to run alongside the Tyler Perry and Saw films that fueled them through the 00′s. Now that they have Summit, and The Hunger Games franchise, revising Twilight from another studio’s perspective could be just what the doctor ordered…

Now, while Deadline and others are quick to debunk the news, let’s also remember what BD added to their story – the knowing that Lionsgate will deny that they plan to reboot “Twilight” (assumingly knowing how ridiculous a notion is, they would hate anyone to believe it’s actually a probability). While I don’t know a lot on the situation, what I can tell you is that I’ve heard similar things – but more along the lines of the film being rebooted for television – a’la “The Vampire Diaries”. Lionsgate are getting hugely into TV these days, and are bringing a lot of their old film franchises to it (like “The Expendables”), so it’s possible that “Twilight” is indeed being rebooted for the medium.

What I’m trying to say is, as ridiculous as it rebooting a still-fresh film franchise is, let’s not forget that this is Hollywood and if there’s money to be made, they will do something. And there’s no way the studio are going to let that huge “Twilight” title fade into the distance once “Breaking Dawn Part 2” disappears from cinemas at the end of the year.
