May 2015 will forever be known as the month Christmas came early for “Twin Peaks” fans.
Firstly, just when it looked like the captain had abandoned ship, David Lynch returned to the series he had exited a month before – having now worked out a plum deal for himself to direct all of Showtime’s season 3 eps.
Though the plan was for 9 episodes, Lynch’s new agreement – as hinted in some of his comments – would potentially include a few more episodes.
Seems that’s definitely the case – though few isn’t exactly the right word to use in regards to the extended season… not when Showtime and Lynch have now agreed to a further 9 episodes, bringing the season to 18 episodes! That’s even longer than that first season of “Twin Peaks” in the ’90s, which concluded at just.
Actresses Sheryl Lee and Sherilyn Fenn revealed the news at SCrypticon in Seattle this weekend, adding that filming will commence in September in North Bend, Washington – where the original series was filmed. Locations like Twedes Cafe, which doubled as The Double R Diner in the original, will be renovated for use in the production.
What’s likely happened is, Showtime has agreed to Lynch’s financial terms, so long as he agreed to give them more than the initially agreed-upon nine episodes.
Lynch and Mark Frost have written all the episodes for the new season, with Lynch now confirmed to direct all 18 episodes. In addition to Lee and Fenn, returning cast members include Kyle MacLachlan as Agent Dale Cooper and Madchen Amick as Shelley Johnson.
