Twister reboot in the works with Top Gun 2 director

Universal is dusting off ‘Dorothy’ for another trip into the eye of the storm!

The studio has tapped “Top Gun : Maverick” director Joseph Kosinski to direct a reboot of ’90s hit “Twister”.  Seeing as the film is being marketed as a ‘reboot’ as opposed to a ‘remake’, there’s a shot the new film could – like Kosinski’s “Top Gun” sequel – continue on from the events of the precious films, and include original cast member Helen Hunt (her co-star Bill Paxton sadly passed away a few years back).

Frank Marshall, whose wife Kathleen Kennedy produced the Jan deBont directed original, will produce the new film. Writers are currently being sought.

Warner Bros. released the original film, which earned $494.4 million globally and was made by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment. One of the things the original is remembered for is its innovative sound design, which had moviegoers feeling the tornadoes in their seats and in their teeth.

In addition to Hunt and Paxton, “Twister” also starred Philip Seymour Hoffman, Cary Elwes, Jami Gertz, Lois Smith, Alan Ruck, Jeremy Davies, Sean Whalen, Joey Slotnick, Todd Field and Jake Busey.
