Delaney, who first appeared on Steven Bocho’s original police drama hit during its second season, was a regular on the series from season 5 until the end of its 12-season run. Russell is the only character from the original run to be written into the pilot for the new incarnation.

The sequel revolves around Theo, the son of Dennis Franz’s Detective Andy Sipowicz character from the original series, who tries to earn his detective shield and work in the 15th squad while investigating his father’s murder.

Alona Tal, known for her role as Meg Manning on “Veronica Mars”, is also in the cast.
