Universal cancels The Hunt release following shootings

Update: In what’s proven to be a rather controversial move, Universal has opted to cancel the release of “The Hunt” (see trailer here).

“While Universal Pictures had already paused the marketing campaign for The Hunt, after thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film. We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller, but we understand that now is not the right time to release this film.”

Hollywood can be as classy and understandably respectable on occasion.

In the wake of this week’s tragic mass shootings that saw 34 people lose their lives in Texas and California, respectively,  Universal has pressed pause on all promo for hardcore hot-button thriller “The Hunt”.

“Out of sensitivity to the attention on the country’s recent shooting tragedies, Universal Pictures and the filmmakers of ‘The Hunt’ have temporarily paused its marketing campaign and are reviewing materials as we move forward,”a statement issued today by the studio read.

The film, which tells of twelve strangers who wake up in a clearing and discover they’ve been targeted by liberals, will stick to its release date of September 27.
